The Year in Reading: May 2008

May was also a slow month, but my reading brought me plenty of enjoyment.

Slowpoke: One Nation, Oh My God!, Jen Sorensen, pub. 2008, F *****

  • Not sure whether to classify this as fiction or nonfiction. Sorensen’s take on culture and politics is almost too true to be funny. I say “almost” — she’s actually very funny.

Practically Perfect in Every Way: My Misadventures Through the World of Self-Help–and Back, Jennifer Niesslein, pub. 2008, NF ****

  • I really enjoyed this book. Niesslein inflicts several popular self-help programs on herself and chronicles the results with humor and insight.

Trespassers Will Be Baptized: The Unordained Memoir of a Preacher’s Daughter, Elizabeth Emerson Hancock,
pub. 2008, NF **

  • Amusing anecdotes about growing up as a preacher’s kid.
