From the Jefferson Madison Regional Library:
Right to Literacy Declaration
Join Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle and Mayor Dave Norris in signing the Right to Literacy Scroll on Tuesday, July 20th at 10am.
The scroll was authored at the first ever Right to Literacy Convention on June 13, 2009. At the convention, which was modeled after the historic Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention of 1848, delegates from across the country authored and added their names to the Right to Literacy Declaration scroll, stating that all people have the right to literacy. The goal is to get 1,000,000 signatures on the Literacy Scroll as it clocks up hundreds of thousands of miles across the country. It will be presented to President Obama in September.
