Three big announcements:

Member Meeting, Saturday, Sept 11 – 1-2 PM at the new VABC location (under the Art Box)
Please join us for a look at the new space and a review of member benefits and expectations. Experienced and prospective members encouraged! (Renew dues!) The new location, downstairs within the Creative Framing/Art Box (2125 Ivy Road–by Foods of All Nations), will allow new expanded access hours and a convenient partnership with a paper and book arts supplier.
Stick around after–time for socializing, project talk, and organizing in the new location.

VA Folklife Showcase, Sunday, Sept 12 – Noon-5PM
Come enjoy a reward for all that VABC moving! Join the Folklife Program at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities on Sunday, September 12th, from Noon to 5PM for the seventh annual Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship Showcase. We’ll celebrate the seventh graduating class of folklife apprentices and introduce the incoming Virginia Folk Masters, with musical performances, oysters, crafts, and traditional Brunswick Stew. Admission is free.

Letterpress Certification Class, Sunday Sept 26 and five Sundays in Fall (1-5PM), Fee: $500
Friends, this is our most ambitious course to date–a whirlwind tour of letterpress printing that will take you from “zero” to “licensed” in a few weeks. Students will print a final project to demonstrate mastery of skills. See full description online. UVA EMPLOYEES: This course could be free to you as part of your Education Benefit.

You will learn to compose, typeset, and print a text project with lead type on a Vandercook printing press; understand the strategies and concepts behind two-color letterpress printing; use wood type, polymer, and block print on a Vandercook press; troubleshoot common printing problems; clean the parts of a Vandercook press; and more!
