Thursday, October 21, 7pm, Publishing Fiction Against the Grain with Dylan Landis
Dylan Landis’s novel-in-stories, “Normal People Don’t Live Like This,” was hailed by Pulitzer Prize winner Elizabeth Strout as a “wonderful, intriguing, and original debut,” yet 17 publishers initially rejected it.
Join us to discuss Normal People Don’t Live Like This and Landis’s challenging path to publication as a debut fiction author over the age of 50 publishing in a difficult economy. Landis will talk about the role of determination and faith while pursuing publication and will discuss craft, including research, revision, and surviving rejection.

Ever thought about writing a 50,000-word novel in 30 days? November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and once again, WriterHouse is headquarters for the Charlottesville region. If you’re thinking of joining a group of intrepid writers on this month-long journey, come on Saturday for an orientation/writing prep/meet the other writers session. Sunday, October 24, 1-4pm, Words & Wine, Keswick Vineyards
This is the first annual Words & Wine event, a fundraiser for WriterHouse.
Admission includes wine tasting, complimentary wine glass, light hors d’oeuvres, and one raffle ticket. In addition, Keswick has generously agreed to donate 10% of all event-related wine and merchandise sales to WriterHouse. Tickets may be purchased via Paypal or stop by during open hours to pay by cash or check.
